4WD Awnings

4WD and ute awnings that bolt to your roof rack

Every awning here mounts to the roof rack of a 4WD, ute or wagon and opens out beside the vehicle. Choose a free standing awning for the most shade, with dimmable LED lights built in. Choose a Rock Hard hard case awning if you want it sealed away on the rack and open in one motion.

180 or 270 free standing awning?

The 180 Free Standing Awning swings out along the side of the rig, giving 8.1m² of shade that projects 2m from the vehicle. At 19.8kg plus 3.82kg of brackets, it's the lighter pick if you're watching your rack load. In calm conditions it stands on its own, so you can throw it out for a quick roadside stop.

The 270 Free Standing Awning wraps around the side and rear for 11.14m² of cover, and mounts on the passenger (left-hand) side. Add the 270 Wall Kit to close it in: three zip-on walls in 280gsm poly-cotton rip-stop, with mesh windows, rain flies and a roll-up door.

With either awning, drop the twist-lock poles and peg out the ratchet ropes when the breeze picks up or you're staying the night.

Rock Hard hard case awnings

The Rock Hard awnings live in an aluminium hard case that keeps the fabric sealed away from branches, stones and road grime, so they can stay on the rack between trips. The arms run out on tracks, the awning slides open in one motion, and it retracts back into the case when you pack up.

Shower awning and mounting brackets

The Deluxe Shower Awning drops down from your rack into a private ensuite. It has 420D ripstop Oxford walls, straps that adjust to your vehicle height, internal pockets and a white and amber LED light. It needs a pivoting bracket, which isn't included. Pair it with the 30L Road Shower.

Need more clearance? The Adjustable Awning T-Bracket is 5mm powder-coated steel and raises or lowers the awning to clear rooftop tents, canopy doors or side-mounted gear. It suits straight and 270° awnings and is sold singly, so check how many your awning needs.

Before you buy

  • Rack load: add the awning and bracket weight to everything else on the roof, then check the total against your roof rack's and vehicle's dynamic load ratings.
  • Rack fit: the free standing awnings come with L-brackets for crossbars and Uni-Strut nuts for platform racks. A hard case awning needs a straight run of rack at least as long as its case.
  • Which side: mount the awning so it opens away from traffic and clear of doors, ladders and lights.
  • Wind: use the supplied poles, ropes and pegs whenever the breeze picks up.

Awning FAQs

Do I need a roof rack? Yes. The free standing and Rock Hard awnings come with brackets and hardware to fit common racks. The shower awning needs a pivoting bracket, which isn't included.

Is the canvas waterproof? The 320gsm poly-cotton canvas on the free standing awnings sheds light rain and resists UV. Like most canvas, it benefits from seasoning and regular care.

Can I leave a hard case awning on all year? Yes. The Rock Hard's aluminium case protects the fabric from UV, rain and grime when it's closed. Check the mounting bolts after corrugated tracks.
