• No additional brackets or accessories are required beyond what is supplied in the kit.

Q: Does this kit fit all GWM Ute Cannon models?

A: It fits GWM Ute Cannon models from 2022-on that do not have a factory tailgate assist system. Factory-assist models use different hardware and geometry. This means the supplied brackets and struts will not align correctly on those vehicles. Always check your tailgate for existing assist struts before ordering.

Q: Can I install the Tuff Terrain tailgate assist kit at home?

A: Yes, many owners install this kit at home using common hand tools. The kit uses factory bolt holes, which keeps the process straightforward for someone confident with basic spanner work. Some vehicles may have tight or thread-locked bolts, which is why special tools can help removal. If in doubt, a workshop or fitter can complete the job.

Q: Do I need to remove the factory steel straps and cables?

A: You remove the steel strap and rubber where the strut and cable mount, but the new cables supplied in the kit take over the support role. The installation steps show exactly which bolts and brackets to swap. The new cables work with the struts to control both movement and final resting angle. Always follow the included instructions or video guide.

Q: Will the gas struts need regular maintenance?

A: The gas struts are sealed units and do not need regular maintenance beyond simple cleaning. Wiping dirt from the shaft helps protect the seals during compression. Avoid using grease or solvents on the shaft, as these can attract grit. If a strut eventually loses force after long use, it can be replaced as a unit.

Q: Can the kit handle use on rough work sites and gravel roads?

A: The tailgate assist kit suits repeated use on mixed road surfaces within the normal load limits of the vehicle. The gas struts help manage impact loads as the tailgate moves, which can reduce stress at the hinges over time. Correctly installed hardware stays aligned under vibration. For heavily modified trays or non-standard hinges, check clearances before use.
